Biography

Jim Pacey enjoyed a 38-year career with the YMCAs of Houston, Austin, St. Louis, and Seattle. He helped start four YMCAs in previously unserved areas. In each case, he led a grassroots process within those communities to assure support from individuals, organizations, and municipalities.

Pacey revamped the YMCA of Austin’s financial development department and, in 2010, raised over $1 million for the first time in the organizations’ history. He led the YMCA of Austin’s 2020 strategic planning process. Pacey has trained hundreds of YMCA staff and volunteers over the past 30 years as a national trainer for YMCA-USA.

Pacey started his own consulting and coaching company in 2019, focused primarily on improving small nonprofit organizations in Austin. His areas of expertise are board governance, strategic planning, community development and engagement, and fundraising. Pacey has worked with Artesia General Hospital (New Mexico), ARC of Texas, Austin Country Club, City of Austin, Adisa Communications, Cortez Consulting, Stronger Austin, Truth Be Told, Nourish Foundation, Chestnut Neighborhood Revitalization Corporation, Me and the Bees, and AISD. He also has facilitated workshops at ACC’s Center for Nonprofit Studies, HDO and Extended Campus Custom Training.

Pacey spends his spare time working part-time at REI as a footwear specialist, traveling, hiking, running and staying active. Pacey is active as a volunteer with Mayor’s Health and Fitness Council (treasurer), The Neighborhood, Inc., and THATT (Texas Health and Trade Technical Institute)

His areas of study include certified 360 coach; certification in Neuroscience Coaching and Leadership, OptiMind Neuroscience Coaching & Training Institute; certification in Foundational and Relational Skills of Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman; and considerable research in emotional intelligence.
